Materials & Processes
The Granul’IA project, led by IXSANE and IMT Nord Europe, will define the conditions and processes enabling the use of marine and river sediments as alternative materials for the production of lightweight, high-performance artificial aggregates.
The project aims to experiment and assess the potential for valorizing non-inert, non-hazardous marine and river sediments in the aggregates sector. It will also optimize manufacturing methods based on sediment characteristics using Artificial Intelligence algorithms.
The partners seek to define, optimize, and validate the technical, environmental, regulatory, and economic feasibilityof creating a new sediment-based product: artificial aggregates for use in structural and non-structural concretes, intended for maritime construction and infrastructure applications.
Building on these results, IXSANE and IMT Nord Europe aim to establish an expanded consortium for a demonstration and industrial deployment of the solution.
