The RECONVERT MOOC: introduction to the challenges of building deconstruction and waste management.
Description
Building demolition and the management of products, equipment, materials and waste (PEMD in French for Produits-Equipements-Matériaux-Déchets) are part of the construction and waste management industry. The construction industry is a source of employment and economic exchange. It also has some of the greatest impacts on the environment. The challenge is to find a better compromise reconciling the economic activity and its impacts.
- Use the basic vocabulary from the circular economy field for the management of resources resulting from building deconstruction
- Establish the key concepts involved in a deconstruction site
- Identify the challenges of building demolition and product, equipment, material and waste management
- Identify the different trades involved in this construction sector
- Use a common language: the circular economy
Circular economy in the RECONVERT MOOC
Understanding the principles of the circular economy is a key step. This will help us achieve the objectives for 2050 for the implementation of plans and measures to limit our impacts on the environment. Indicators of the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy include the systematic practice of selective deconstruction, traceability of products, equipment, materials and waste (PEMD) for each site, and establishment of a model in which responsibility is extended to include producers. We are transitioning from production and consumption practices based solely on an economic view of the end-of-life management of PEMD to an eco-design approach and responsible consumption practices.
This MOOC offers a simple introduction to building deconstruction, the organization of PEMD treatment sectors and the fundamental principles of the circular economy.
