DYMITRIA

Materials & Processes

DYMITRIA project, Deposition and transfer of MIcroplasTics in RIvers in a region subject to heavy urban and agricultural Anthropization.

Microplastics (MP) are emerging, ubiquitous and persistent pollutants whose sources, transfer, stocks and fate are still difficult to estimate in continental ecosystems, due to a lack of usable data. The aim of the project is to improve our knowledge of the sources, stocks and fluxes of microplastics in watersheds. It aims to provide results for two anthropized urban and agricultural catchments in the Hauts de France region. These results are based on a robust metrology strategy, and are representative of the complexity of surface environments due to the diversity of media sampled: air, soil, water and WWTP sludge, as well as the water column, sediments and river discharges. Dymitria will be able to provide answers to the concerns of local institutions about plastic pollution in rivers, and to stimulate a process of reducing plastic pollution at source by disseminating the knowledge acquired.
