ATMO-ACCESS Project: Solutions for Sustainable Access to Atmospheric Research Facilities

The ATMO-ACCESS project aims to provide a series of recommendations to establish a global and sustainable framework for access to atmospheric Research Infrastructures (RIs), ensuring integrated access and optimized use of the services they provide. ATMO-ACCESS mobilizes extensive resources to commit to harmonizing access proceduresregarding policies, financial regulations, and access conditions. It develops and tests innovative access modalities to facilities and services, including digital services, developed through inter-RI efforts.
ATMO-ACCESS opens physical and remote access to 43 operational European atmospheric research facilities, including ground-based observation stations, simulation chambers, mobile facilities, and Central Facilities, which are fundamental elements of distributed RIs. Access to the RIs’ data centers enables the provision of innovative and inter-RI services, as well as virtual tools for training. All of ATMO-ACCESS’s work integrates the experiences of previous access programs, allowing for synergistic streamlining of efforts and avoiding duplication.
The Center for Education, Research, and Innovation in Energy and Environment (CERI EE)
Within the ATMO-ACCESS project, CERI EE is responsible for developing virtual resources to train users of Research Infrastructures (RIs) and their products, including in particular:
a two-week pilot MOOC on European Research Infrastructures;
the development of a serious game based on measurements from the ATOLL platform, in partnership with the Educational Engineering and Resources Department (PIRP) and with the scientific expertise of the Atmospheric Optics Laboratory (LOA, CNRS/University of Lille);
