IMT Nord Europe organizes the first scientific seminar on the IM3T cross-sectoral initiative

IMT Cross-Sectoral Technologies - IM3T

The Materials and Processes Research Center organized the first scientific seminar of the IM3T (IMT Technologies Traverses) in-person at IMT Nord Europe on November 9 and 10, 2023 with fifteen researchers from IMT Atlantique (ARAGO platform and Lab-STICC) and Mines Saint-Étienne (Center of Microelectronics in Provence). The program targeted one of the three areas of this technological convergence initiative (Materials and processes for multiphysical sensors, Integrated technology and devices for environmental monitoring, Materials and sensors for predictive maintenance). The agenda included two half-days of scientific seminars and tours of IMT Nord Europe’s technological platforms.

This first meeting allowed us to extensively discuss the advanced materials and processes of interest for the development of new optoelectronic transducers and multiphysical sensors. The IM3T initiative aims to develop and enhance cross-sectoral technology that draws on various types of expertise specific to each IMT School in terms of innovative materials (e.g. electro-optical or electro-chemical materials, shape memory materials, dielectric graded materials, piezoelectric materials, metamaterials) and associated processes for structuring the material at various spatial scales (e.g. additive melt/liquid printing processes, shaping processes, lithographic processes). The seminar launched the first PhD thesis to be co-directed by IMT Nord Europe / IMT Atlantique on 4D printing of autonomous electronic devices. Other applications are also being developed (instrumented optical lenses, advanced camouflage systems, biomedical devices, advanced antennas/wave guides).

These seminars play an important role in increasing the visibility of IMT in the field of technology for the industry of the future and in organizing and promoting the gradual development of new disruptive technological sectors with high added value for French industry. The next edition will take place in St-Etienne in June 2024. It will focus on the second theme (integrated devices for environmental monitoring) and will include IMT Mines Albi and IMT Mines Alès, with a focus on expertise in environmental sensors and monitoring structures. The next sessions will also address the eco-design criteria applicable to IM3T technology sectors.
