EcoSed Sea & River Public Works Chair

Materials & Processes

Circular ECOnomy of SEDiments (EcoSed)

The EcoSed Sea & River Public Works Chair: joint recovery research chair (following on from the Ecosed1 chair and the EcoSed digital 4.0 chair) was created to respond to the issue of recovery of sediments stemming from dredging activity.

In France, there are estimated to be more than 50 million m3 of sediments dredged every year. Launched in 2014 with Ecosed1 then extended with the EcoSed digital 4.0 chair, the 3rd edition of the EcoSed chair was initiated in 2025 for a period of 5 years. The new EcoSed chair aims to promote scientific and technological work and partnerships in the management of port and river sediments in order to develop relevant recovery methods in sea and river public works applications such as roads/embankments, concrete, binders, landscape mounds, artificial aggregates, etc. There are also plans to carry out technical and economic feasibility studies of joint recovery of dredging sediments with other types of secondary raw materials: deconstruction rubble, clinker, etc.

The scientific challenges of the chair are highly multidisciplinary and grouped by theme into collaborative taskforces featuring both chair partners and researchers.
