I was trained as environmental scientist and I completed my PhD degree in Atmospheric Dynamics by the University of Barcelona in 2011. I joined the Environmental Research Group (ERG) at King’s College London in the United Kingdom first as Air Quality Analyst and since then I became an active and a key researcher in the MRC Centre for Environment and Health. In April 2016 I was promoted to Research Associate in the newly established Aerosol Science Team; and promoted to Research Fellow within the same team in June 2020. In ERG, I was an active investigator on projects funded by research councils, local and national government; and also industrial partners; dealing with air quality issues of national concern such as emissions of pollutants from traffic sources, incinerators and domestic wood burning. I have led the design and execution of ambient and aircraft measurement surveys in Spain and in London; and statistical analysis projects including trend analysis in time-series, source apportionment of particulate matter and machine-learning algorithms applied to PM sources. In 2021 I joined the MERA network at IMT Nord Europe and I was appointed Assistant Professor at the CERI EE (Centre for Energy and Environment) in 2023.
My research focuses on the analysis of ambient air quality measurements to identify and quantify the spatial and temporal variability of their sources. I have specialized in the measurement techniques of fine particulate matter and its chemical composition (aethalometer, aerosol mass spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence, etc.) and I have applied and developed statistical to quantify their sources and trends such as positive matrix factorization and machine-learning algorithms.
